‘You get what you pay for’ is a saying that is often banded about when buying ink cartridges. Various printer manufacturers all claim to have the best technology to offer you the very best printing solution, thus making the market saturated and complicated . All manufacturers boast of having the best printer ink quality and claim various new features over another brand. It boils down to whether the printer ink you are using is an original equipment manufactured (OEM) cartridge or a compatible generic ink cartridge, and what kind of deal you can get.  Generic cartridges can vary greatly in quality, the only way to sort out the wheat from the chaff is to try different brands until you find a product you are happy with.  Firstinkjets have tried many different brands of ink cartridges over the years with results ranging from simply appauling in the early days to compatible cartridges that offer quality comparable to oem cartridges at a fraction of the price. It is interesting to know that many  manufacturers other than the original manufacturer manufacture printer cartridges using new and recycled parts . In many cases, the only recycled parts are the parts that encase the ink, and they are put through strict quality controls to meet or surpass OEM specifications. At the end of the day you cannot beat the quality of the oem cartridges, but don’t be afraid to try other brands such as Radinks or Jet-Tec. Often the print quality of a lesser known brand will be equal to or, in some cases, surpass that of an OEM printer cartridge and it will cost a lot less.

As a consumer,  the decision is up to you  , for everyday  printing wether it be text or photographs compatible / remanufactured cartridges by a leading manufacturer will not only perform superbly, but will  outlast and be far cheaper than the oem  competitors. If however you are printing photographs that will be on show (i.e in direct sunlight) and you want to last for a hundred years or so. Then the genuine oem cartridges are the better bet. But we warned, you will need to use the  printer manufacturers   specific photo paper for the long lasting results to be achievable
